John Bacon joined the State Board of Education in 1999, representing District 3. Prior to joining the State Board he served on the site council for Tomahawk Elementary School in USD 233 for five years. In addition, John served on the Olathe City Council for 11 years. He was elected to represent the State Board on the Kansas State High School Activities Association Board of Directors from 2001-2006 and also served on the KSHSAA Executive Board.
John earned his Bachelor's degree in accounting from Mid- America Nazarene University in 1985 and is now self-employed as a certified public accountant. John is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He and his wife, Melanie, have been married for 19 years and have three children.
